Have you ever been angry at God? As Christians, we think that it is not within our right to be angry at God. Or if we are angry at God we feel like it is God’s fault. There have been times where I was mad at God because I did not understand why God let someone I was close to me die (see blog here) or why God had not answered my prayers.
I had become mad at God for not fixing things I felt He could fix or the things I wanted him to fix. In other words, I wanted God to do what I wanted Him to do and how I wanted Him to do it. And when that did not happen it made me even madder at God, because I felt that He was somehow letting me down. I am not ashamed to admit that sometimes I can be a bit of a selfish Christian (click to read my blog here).
I am human after all and I think that most humans have a bit of selfishness in them from time to time. But really most of the time that is where us being angry at God comes from. Because we want what we want and God is not helping us get what we want.
But did you know that being angry with God is actually helping you and not hurting you? But first, be sure to watch my video below on why God won’t give me what I want because I feel that us not getting what we want is one of the main reasons for being angry with God.
Let me explain:
1. Me Being Angry At God Made Me Realize That Life Is No Always A Box Of Chocolates
It took me growing as a Christian and my understanding of God for me to get that we are called to go through this thing called life and that our life is not going to be perfect. No matter if we believe in God or not. And just because we call ourselves Christian it does not mean that everything is going to go our way nor does it mean that things are going to work out how we want them to work out.
We are called to go through hardships to make us stronger (see my blog here). This is the natural order of things, since the fall of man, and perfection on Earth was ended. And just because we have to endure things in life that cause us frustration does not mean that we need to turn our frustration on God.
Especially when he is the main one that can fix whatever we are going through. Why alienate on the only ally? The devil and all his little demons are running around Earth waiting to jack up your day. And the havoc that they are causing in your life is not God’s fault.
2. Me Being Angry At God Made Me Realize That I Am Still Standing
But knowing that life is not going to be perfect for us does not make us feel better. We are Christians we love God, why do we have to suffer? I agree with suffering and hard times really do suck. But God tells us that He will never put more on us than we can bear.
And I know it feels like when we are angry at God that we are at a point that we cannot bear to take any more. We cannot bear to take any more disappointments, unanswered prayers, or sad situations. Have you ever been put in or had situations in which you have been praying for a solution for days, months, or even years and no solution comes, instead the problem gets worse?
Have you ever prayed for a miracle, healing, or money and had the faith of a mustard seed, just like the Bible said, but your prayers were not answered? If the answer is yes, then of course you are MAD at God. But guess what despite all of that you are still standing.
If you are human, like me, then hardships can feel like they keep getting harder and as they get harder we start to resent God or at least wonder if God can stop your suffering then why doesn’t He?
I may not have the full and complete answer but I can provide you with some of the answers. God knows all and He knows the reason why He does what He does. And even though your prayers seemed like they are going unanswered that is probably not true. Even no answer is an answer and the real issue is that God is not answering your prayer the way you want Him to (Click here to read my blog).
I want to use myself as an example. If you read my single mother story there was a time that I went through continual hardship. No money, no food, no job, and then when I did get a job I was underpaid. I was so tired and always thought WHY is this happening to me. And I saw it as being within God’s power to stop it, and when He didn’t; it made me angry. And so God and I were at a Mexican standoff and one of us needed to bend.
And so I did bend because I was so tired of being angry with God. And even when I bent things did not change right away. Flash forward years later, I have a new boldness.
I am fearless. That is because I went through hell and high water literally and even though it hurt and even though it made me angry with God, it made me stronger. It made me realize that if that situation did not break me then NOTHING can.
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5
When you go through something instead of getting mad at God know that God is doing this to you for a reason. To build you up and refine your character. And since God is God and there is no fighting Him, you mine as well go through the process and allow it to make your stronger.
“It is better to fight with God than it is to fight against God. “
3. Me Being Angry At God Made Me Realize That I Had To Forgive God
Like I said before. The reason why I was angry with God is that I felt like God was doing me wrong. Now I know that God loves me and wants me to prosper. But it did not change the fact that I felt like God had done me wrong. Think of it like this, when you are angry with a person you are angry with them because you feel like they have done something to you. And that is how I felt with God.
So just like you have to forgive people who have wrong you, I found myself in a position in which I had to forgive God. I know this may sound crazy to some of you, but I can almost guarantee that many of you hold resentment toward God and are not even aware of it and that is what it fueling your anger against God.
How many of you have blamed God for a child or parent dying? For a rape, molestation, or a violent crime against you? How many of you still harbor bad feelings toward God for a terminal illness or job loss that just keeps causing you pain? That is the hidden resentment that you have toward God that I am talking about. You must be able to forgive God for the ways you feel He has let you down.
4. Me Being Angry At God Made Me Realize That God Is Not A Man
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Numbers 23:19
When I was angry at God I noticed that I was putting human characteristics on God thinking He has abandoned me, is upset with me, or wants to see me suffer in His name for one reason or the next. In fact, this was the same mentality that the Israelites had and this mentality actually pissed God off. See my video below for more on that.
And that is what made me angry with him. Just like it would make me angry at any person that I felt was trying to do something to me for no reason. But see God is not like that. God is not selfish and He does not want to use us, humans, to satisfy His own vanity by making us suffer because He thinks its fun. By being mad at God that is what I used to think. I use to think that He would allow me to suffer just so I can pray harder to Him.
I came to feel that when my prayers were unanswered my whole life was at God’s mercy and He was going to do what He wanted no matter if I prayed or not. And that is when I stopped praying because I thought “What’s the point?”
This is dangerous thinking. AND it is a very HUMAN way of thinking. God is not a man. God is always on our side and no matter what we are going through God tells us to just trust Him (not to get mad at Him) because all things work together for our good.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
And so instead of getting mad at the things that are happening we have to believe that they are happening for a reason. And if we start being angry with God because we feel like God is against us then we will stop praying to God, we will feel separated from God, and our misplaced anger will lead us to have a viewpoint of God that is not true. And if you do not have God on your side then what?
If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
Do not put a wedge between you and God by being angry with him. He is the best and biggest advocate you can ever have. And look at it this way. Even Jesus had his moments with God his own father as he was sitting there dying on the cross in complete and utter pain.
Jesus had even prayed to go before asking him was there any other way that he could not be crucified. To the point that is sweat turned into blood. Luke 22:44. BUT Jesus was crucified because He had to be. No, he did not like it but it needed to happen. And so even in his last hours, Jesus cried out:
“My God, why has thou forsaken me?” Matthew 27:45-50
You see we all feel lost, forsaken, or abandoned by God sometimes. Even Jesus did. It is important, however, not to allow our hardships to lose sight of God and skew how we see Him. And just like Jesus had to die so that you and I could live there was a reason why God was doing what He was doing.

I like honesty….I think all of us have been there where we felt this “disappoinment”
Yes. Agreed. But I think so many people are afraid to talk about. But we all have dealt with it.
