In this post, I am going to talk about the fact that you NEED to step out of your comfort zone. YOU NEED TO. How would you ever know if you were good at something or not if you did not try? How would you ever know if you do or do not like something if you did not try?
How you would know who you could meet or what opportunities may come your way you were never willing to try? If you do not step out of your comfort zone then you will remain exactly where you are, you will remain stagnant, and you will be limiting your own self-growth.
And don’t think that just because I am telling you to step out of your comfort zone that I am saying it is easy. It’s not. I get it. We have our own anxieties, fears, concerns, drawbacks, limitations, or the fact that we simply don’t want to. But I know for a fact that when you really start stepping out, trying something new, and doing something new that it is not as bad as you think it is.
And more often than not, stepping out of your comfort zone time and time again will be a huge benefit to you. This is why it may also be beneficial for you to check out my video. How to turn fear into a faith which you can watch below and also don’t forget to subscribe to my channel by clicking here.
SO, In this post, I am going to address two things.
How to get out of your comfort zone
and
Why you should step out of your comfort zone.
First, why you should step out of your comfort zone.
For this first point I actually want to take a real life case study that I feel would illustrate my point perfectly.
Case in point : Steve Harvey
In Steve Harvey’s book “Act like a success think like a success (click to buy) he gives the following story. Before he (Steve Harvey) became the wildly successful person that we know today he was working a regular job at the Ford Motor company. He wanted to quit and become a comedian. I think you can almost bet what people were saying to him. “Why would you want to quit your awesome job and try to go live an impossible dream as a comedian.” Steve did leave his job and his life was faced with A LOT of hardships while he did it. But because he stepped out of his comfort zone and decided to pursue something he was good at he is now flying on private jets to Dubai.
What is my point
Do you think that Steve would have rather been at the Ford Motor company or flying on a private jet? If he did not step out of his comfort zone he would have still been at the Ford Motor company thinking that, that job was all there was to life. What we can learn from Steve is when you step out of your comfort zone you really might find out something new about yourself. You might find something that you are good at. You may find a new purpose or you may be able to do the impossible with your life.
But those things would never be realized if you are not willing to take the first step. If you stay in a box then all you will ever know is the box. You will think that the inside of your box is the most amazing thing because you have never know anything else but the inside of that box. When really on the outside world there are fun and amazing things. But because you just won’t get out of the box you don’t even know what the outside world looks like.
Other stepping out of your comfort zone benefits:
- You’ll have an easier time dealing with new and unexpected changes. By taking risks in a controlled fashion and challenging yourself to things you normally wouldn’t do, you can experience some of that uncertainty in a controlled, manageable environment. Learning to live outside your comfort zone when you choose to can prep you for life changes that force you out of it.
- You’ll find it easier to push your boundaries in the future. Once you start stepping out of your comfort zone, it gets easier over time.
- You’ll find it easier to brainstorm and harness your creativity. Seeking new experiences, learning new skills, and opening the door to new ideas inspire us and educate us in a way that little else does. (source).
Secondly, how to get out of your comfort zone?
Before we get into it, consider checking out my video on choosing faith over worry which you can watch down below.
Tip 1:. The first thing you need to do is to find out what is your comfort zone. And you have to do that by asking yourself, “What am I afraid of.” Once you identify that then you know where you need to start.
Tip 2: To break through your comfort zone, you need to first educate yourself. Your goal here is to find out about whatever skill or activity you’re pursuing. You’ll talk to people who have done the same thing. You’ll read books on the subject. And you’ll check-out articles on the Internet about this subject. Information is power. And the more you know about something, the less scary and more powerful you’ll feel. Source.
Tip 3: Tell Yourself, ‘I Am Fearless’ Disempowering thought habits keep us in our comfort zones. Replacing those thoughts with empowering ones help us take a new perspective and move to action. Repeating the mantra, “I am fearless” over and over again and envisioning yourself successfully doing or achieving what you fear can help you reprogram your disempowering thought habit and move forward. Source.
Tip 4: Don’t pick the safe choice. Every time you’re making a choice, one choice is the safe/comfortable choice, and one choice is the risky/uncomfortable choice. The risky/uncomfortable choice is the one that will teach you the most and make you grow the most, so that’s the one you should choose. Source
Tip 5: Hang out with risk takers. If you want to become better at something, you must start hanging out with the people who are doing what you want to do and start emulating them. (source). Which I say in my separate blog post about surrounding yourself with positive people. Click here to read.
There you have it folks everything that you need to know about both how and why you need to step out of your comfort zone AND exactly how to do it. If you know someone that may need to read this post then feel free to share it with them.

What a great post, and a great reminder! Thanks for sharing the encouragement. I will be thinking about in which areas I need to step outside my comfort zone. It does take a lot sometime to put yourself “out there” with a blog. I know when I started blogging a few years ago, it was after the death of my husband. As I went “through the valley” following that time, and picked up the pieces again with my daughters, I felt like I had some encouragement to give to others that may be going through the same thing.
This is wonderful . We need more uplifting and cool orientated posts like this .
Thanks so much for your comment
Awesome post! I agree with stepping out of your comfort zone… Because you never know the greatness you are stepping into!
Thanks for your comment
I have a hard time with putting myself out there as well. I have been a lot better about it this year, and it has turned into some of my most popular post.
Thanks. That is what I am coming to learn with blogging
I’ve had a blog for a LOOOONG time but I still get nervous to tell people in real life about it! Thanks for this post. Being single isn’t always easy so it’s nice to see a post focused on this life stage.
