I know for many people that reading the Bible can be an overwhelming task. I often here that people do not like reading the Bible because they do not understand it or because they do not like to read.  I used to be one of those people who use to read twenty pages of the Bible in the Old King James version and then wonder why I did not know what in the world I just reading.  When I finally learned how to read the Bible properly, I found that it was one of the most enjoyable things that I like to do know and I was amazed and how much I got to understand the history of mankind, and how I felt closer to God. For these reasons, I feel that it is important for everyone to read the Bible and seek to understand it for themselves.  Therefore, here are my tips on how you can start reading the Bible

Get A Bible That You Understand.

Unless you want to read, a bunch of art thou and come-hither then you may be confused about what it is that you are a reading.   But lucky for you, there are normal version that come in plain ole good on fashion English that you can understand.  The first step to reading the Bible is understanding what is being written.  Some of the versions that I suggest are:

New international version bible (NIV)

The Holy Bible: The New International Version

NIV Study Bible

NIV, Thinline Bible, Large Print, Imitation Leather, Purple, Red Letter Edition

NIV, Student Bible, Paperback

Easy to read version

Holy Bible: Easy-to-Read Version

Bible: Easy to Read – Simple English Version

Holy Bible – Large Print – Easy to Read Version

Amplified version

Amplified Bible Mass Market

The Everyday Life Bible: The Power of God’s Word for Everyday Living, Amplified Version

The Amplified Bible: Old and New Testaments, Expanded Edition

These three are just to name a few. Once you understand what is being said it will make your Bible reading experience much better.

If you do not like to read, you can listen

If you do not like to read, you can listen to the Bible. And you can do it for free! My favorite app is called the Bible app.  The Bible app has tons and tons of translations so you can read the Bible in whatever version you want.  In addition, you can actually chose to have someone read it to you. Which brings me to my next point.

I do not have enough time

Remember that Bible app I mentioned to you. If you are in your car at the gym or anywhere, where you can plug in some headphones, then you have time to listen to the Bible.  I understand it can be hard to carry around a huge Bible and I understand that it can be hard to find a place to read.  Which is why listening can be so much easier and less time consuming.

Start From the Beginning

I remember when I started to really read the Bible, I started from Genesis chapter one verse one and started reading from there. And I loved it.  I got so much understanding from just reading the Old Testament and it made me have new eyes for the new testament.  I feel like you would never pick up a book and start in the middle or at the end.  You start from the beginning, and that is what you should do with the Bible.

Take Notes and Mediate on What You Learn

This is the most important. When you read the Bible, do just that. Read it, absorb it, allow God to speak to you through it and tell you want it means.  Do not set out and read 100 pages in a day and when you stop reading you did not get anything from it.  That defeats the purpose of the Bible.  It is okay if you read a few pages and take notes on what you learned and you can apply it to your life than if you read 200 pages in a day and learn nothing.  The Bible is a living book that is supposed to transform.

Get A Bible That Relates To you

When I was a teen, I had a teen Bible. And I love it.  It had the Bible in it of course but then it also had little lessons inserted in it that someone like me a “teen” could learn from.  You can do that as a woman and as a man.  Having a Bible that pertain to you will help you grasps the information better.
