Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses To Teach You

In this post, I am going to explain who is the Holy Spirit with Bible verses in the most simplest and straightforward way that you can imagine. The fact of the matter is that I grew up in the church, I said the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit but I did not REALLY know what it is was. I did not know what exactly that meant for me. I just knew as a Christian, there was a Trinity, and I accepted it.

And as a sidebar, if you want to know how the Trinity operates then you can watch my video below where I break it down and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel by clicking here.

But if you are a Christian and you have this perception of the Holy Spirit then you are going to cheat yourself out of some REALLY big things. Because literally, the Holy Spirit is like our direct communication line with God.

It is how we can talk to God and how He can talk back to us.  It is surprising to me how many Christians are unaware that they can speak to God and that God actually speaks back. It was not until one day when I really started to read the Bible and learn the word for my own that I realized that this little quiet still voice inside my head that is talking to me is the Holy Spirit. It blew my mind.

In any case, I have told you who the Holy Spirit is in a nutshell but I want to go deeper than that. I feel that only when you have a full understanding and grasp of the Holy Spirit then and only then can you begin to understand what its purpose is in your life and how to activate it.

Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses Where Did It Come From?

The first thing that you must understand is where the Holy Spirit came from and I promise to make this as short and as easy to understand as humanly possible. So first, we see the Holy Spirit is brought to everyone after Jesus has died. In fact, before Jesus dies, He basically tells everyone that His body is going to be dead but that He will come to dwell in them through His spirit. Meaning the Holy Spirit. And you can read the following verses from John Chapter 14 for reference.

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible verse 1:  Jesus answered him, “Those who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will go to them and make our home with them. John 14:23

This symbolizes the trinity (the father, son, and the Holy Spirit) and this verse shows that your body is the Holy Spirit’s home because it dwells in you.

Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses and also take the following Bible verse:

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible verse 2: I have told you this while I’m still with you.  However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. John 14:25-26

It is important for you to know this because the Holy Spirit did not descend on everyone until AFTER Jesus died. BUT it is important to note that the Holy Spirit always existed.  There are several points in the Bible before Jesus died in which the Holy Spirit did speak to certain people. But it was not a mass outpouring like what we know today. Literally, anyone can receive the Holy Spirit know and talk to God if they are willing. Not just a select few.

Now back to when the Holy Spirit came. Take the next Bible verse:

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible Verse 3: “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
    Acts 2:1-5

So basically everyone had the ability to receive the Holy Spirit. Notice how everyone was from everywhere, it was not just Jews anymore.  It was Jews, Gentiles, and anyone who wanted to believe in Jesus they all began to get the Holy Spirit. Whereas before, in the old Testament God mostly just spoke to the Jews.  It is like Jesus’s death marked the ability for EVERYONE to receive it even if they had not been Jewish.

Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses, Does Receiving The Holy Spirit Just Mean Speaking In Tongues?

So the idea of the Holy Spirit is confusing to some people since, on the day of Pentecost, people spoke in tongues and different languages.  Some people think that getting the Holy Spirit is JUST speaking in tongues. It is not. That is just one way that the Holy Spirit can manifest itself. But that is not just what the Holy Spirit is about. Many people say that to receive the Holy Spirit you MUST speak in tongues. This is also not the case as the Bible does not support this statement.

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible Verse 4: “Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!” Corinthians 12:30

The Holy Spirit gives different gifts in different ways.  It is about the direction that God gives us in order to go about our lives.  Also, check out my video below on spiritual gifts.

Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses On What is the Holy Spirit and How Do I Know That It Is Talking To Me?

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible Verse 5: The Holy Spirit works in each person in one way or another for the good of all. 1 Corinthians 12:7

There is no cookie-cutter way to describe the Holy Spirit other than when it communicates to you it should be for your greater good and the greater good of your life. That this can include words, dreams, or even pictures.  In whatever way that God chooses to talk to you is the way that He chooses to talk to you, and you must be open to the way that God speaks to you in order to hear God clearly.

In case you are still confused on how to hear from Holy Spirit and if the Holy Spirit is even talking to you. Remember to TEST each thing that you feel that the  Holy Spirit is telling you.

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible Verse 6: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God 1 John 4:1

If you feel that God is telling you to go murder someone then clearly that is not God because it goes against the whole thou shall not kill commandment.  God would not tell you to do that.  Each and everything that you see, hear or feel from the Holy Spirit you should be able to confirm through the word meaning the Bible. Nothing that God is telling you should go against the word in the Bible.

  • Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Bible Verse 7: But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26

Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ How Can I Actually Learn To Hear The Holy Spirit

To bring my point home on how you can start being one with the Holy Spirit and understanding what it is saying to you and what it wants you to do I want to take an excerpt from my two books.

From my book for single women (click here to read more about it) I state the following:

If you are a Christian and you do not feel that God is with you, if you do not feel His presence, then you really need to build your relationship with God. The entire point of being a Christian is that the Holy Spirit, who is God, comes to live in you. Thus you are not alone. Not ever.  You really need to understand the magnitude of the Holy Spirit and therefore grow an actual relationship with God. Not something phony and fake, but a relationship where you can talk to God and He can talk back to you.

From my devotional for single moms (click here to read more) I said the following about the Holy Spirit.

The way that you learn to hear the Holy Spirit is to get closer with God, and once you are in tune with God, you will be in tune with what He wants from you. Listening to God and doing things God’s way is a sure way for you NOT to fail. Become a friend of God. Let go of all those superficial prayers and sayings that you think God wants to hear or what you think a Christian is supposed to say. Don’t be fake with God. The only way a relationship can grow and get deeper is if there is trust and honesty. That is the type of relationship you want to form with God.

Last, Who Is The Holy Spirit Bible Verses ~ Be Real with God.

What hems a lot of people up from hearing from God is that they are being too fake with God. Instead of talking to God like a normal person they try to speak in the Old King James Version of the Bible, roll around on the floor, saying all these superficial prayers trying to imitate what they think a Christian looks like.

When really all you have to do is just talk to God in a normal way and He will talk back to you in a normal way.  He knows you, He made you, and He knows exactly what to say to you and how to say it. You do not need to become a different person just so that you can hear from God.  Also, check out my video below for more tips on how to hear from God.

Just open up your mind, your heart, and be receptive.  It may take some practice at first, to hear what God is saying or knowing that God is actually speaking to you. But once you do; you will know where God is leading you, what He is telling you to do, and then you cannot go wrong.

The wonderful thing about the Holy Spirit is that it will not give you wrong advice.  And the Holy Spirit ALWAYS has your best interest at heart. Listening to God and knowing God’s voice will help prevent you from going down the wrong path and doing a whole bunch of stupid stuff.  You can watch my video below where I talk more about discernment and the Holy Spirit.

Just because the idea of talking to God may sound crazy in this day and age where so many people are moving away from the traditional value of God, does not mean that we still cannot communicate with God.  And allowing someone to tell you that talking to God and Him talking back to you is crazy, will only undermine your belief system.  Christianity is about having a relationship with God.

That is LITERALLY the whole point of the Holy Spirit. That was one of the main reasons Jesus came to Earth.  So we can know God personally, see His face, and so that we can build a relationship with Him.  In the Old Testament, we saw God as a man in the sky who punished people and wage war on folks.  When Jesus came, we got to truly see God’s face.  And when Jesus died, the Holy Spirit was released in each of us so we got to experience God for ourselves.

  1. Beautiful post. God is here with us in our everyday if we only have the patience to listen. We are all so caught up in the noise of the culture that sometimes it is hard to hear God’s voice, but He is certainly there. I have many examples of Him being there in my own life. Keep up the good work!

  2. I loved reading this. It is true we can talk to God and He will respond. I too have at times not listened and ended up causing myself more harm than good. Thankfully, His overwhelming love for me has helped heal me and restore His plan for my life.
