The Power of Positive Thinking ~ A Christian Perspective

Often time when we think of the power of positive thinking we think of it as some new aged philosophy.  It is hard for Christians to relate to it because we do not know if it is Biblical or now.  Where I am here to tell you that the power of positive thinking is Godly and it is something that God wants us to practice as Christians.

I believe that one of better things that God gave us that separates us from the rest of the animals is our minds. The way we think, the way we invent, the way we dream, and the way we live are amazing things.

Just as this man can use his mind to do all of these things, just imagine what else our mind is capable of.  Just the other day I got a reminder from God. As I was telling Him something was impossible He told me that I needed to stop thinking it.  I needed to stop thinking negatively and I needed to stop with the self-defeating thoughts.  Your mind has power and your thoughts have power. When you think negatively and behave negatively then that is exactly what your life will be.

If you read my blog (happiness is contingent upon how you feel), I spoke about how someone can choose to be happy even though they have less than someone else. This speaks of the ability to train your mind to always try to look at the bright side of things.

When you start to think positively that is when your mind starts to dream and you start to believe.  But when negatively creeps in, then you start to depress your own self.  That is because your mind can control how motivated you are, how hard you work toward a goal, and the places you believe you can go in life.

I think that one of the most extraordinary things is when people come from humble beginnings and then they believe they can do something The Power of Positive Thinking ~ A Christian Perspectiveamazing and then they do it. Steve Harvey gave a great example of how when he was younger he told the teacher he wanted to be on TV.  The teacher told him it was impossible because he did not know anyone on TV.  But look at him now.

As I wrote in a previous post about my son wanting to invent the Iron Man suit (Click here to read that).  I told him it was impossible…. ALL of the time, every time he told me.  I would say “you can’t do that.”  And I could see the disappointment in his eyes over my reaction. But then I stopped.  Who am I to put a damper on his dream just because I deem it impossible?  Why would I allow my negative thinking and doubt to disrupt his belief on what he feels he can do?

My point is that with determination and belief there is not anything that cannot be achieve.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

Your brain has to tell yourself that it can do the impossible and once your brain sends that message to the rest you psyche to get to work, your dream can become a reality.  And once you believe, God will work with you to put all the other things that are beyond your control into action.

Previously, I spoke about how Jesus has to sent doubters away before he could heal the girl (click to read my blog here). Because of their negatively and their unbelief it affected what Jesus was able to do. It was not until Jesus sent them out of the room that He was able to heal the girl.

That is because your mind has power and negatively can have power if you feed it, in the same way that positive thinking can have power it you feed it. I know it can be hard to remain positive when things are falling apart around you.  But negative thinking will only take you lower.  The power of positive thinking, will start to build you up and let you know what steps you need to take to make the situation better.

Therefore, choose to be positive, choose to think positive, and reject and negative thinking that tells you are dreaming too big (click to read my blog here on dreaming big). I have come to learn that the main reason why people do not dream big about what they can do is that they are too scared it may not come true.  And the fear of failing is what directs their actions and when you operate in fear, you will not get anywhere. The power of positive thinking means that you must replace negative thoughts such as fear, jealousy, and anger and choose to think differently about who you are and what you can achieve.  And when you do this, it flows over into your actions and your positive thought become who you become.
