If no one has told you it is time for you to come up with a self care routine. I think for myself personally I had to learn this the hard way. Because oftentimes we go so busy working, doing this, that, and the third and then before we know it when we turn around and look in the mirror we look like who did it and what for and are mentally exhausted in the process.
Which is why a self care routine is so important. I cannot tell you how many women I talk to who tell me that they do not have time, money, or other VERY legitimate reasons as to why they cannot do self care. But as a single working mother myself, I get it and I still find the time to do self care, because I realized that it is important. And I am going to tell you how you can do it as well, it does not matter how much time or money you have I can promise you you can adapt a self care routine that works for you. Also, you can check out my video below on how to take a spiritual bath for self care.
1. First, make a self care routine list and ideas
This is actually one of the most important steps that you can do because it will help you determine what to do when and how often. There are probably some daily self care routines you want to do, weekly self care routines you want to do, and monthly self care routines you want to do. Let me put it to you think way. One of my self care routines is to do my own nails.
The reason why I choose to do my own nails (click here to see my nail routine) is because it saves me money and it saves me time as I do not have to wait in the nail salon for hours and hours on end. But doing my nails is NOT a daily self care routine. It is more so of an every two to three weeks self care routine. And I add this self care routine to my monthly schedule so that I know when to do it as well as all the other self care routines that I want to do. And this is the same attitude that you need to have. Ask yourself:
- What are some of the self care routine ideas you want to add to your life?
- How often do you want to do them?
- When do you want to do them?
- What do you want to do in the morning vs. what you want to do in the afternoon?
Come with a schedule (which you can click here to buy) to be able to write down your self care routine so you know what you should be doing and by when. Going about a self care routine this way makes it a lot easier to get into a self care routine because you will know what you want to do by when.
2. Secondly, What Does Self Care Mean To You
Self care can mean different things to a lot of people. Therefore following my self care routine may not bring you as much joy because you are not me. I will get into some self care routine ideas below but it is important to know what self care means to you.
An easy way to do this is to envision the type of person that you want to be. Think about how you want to look, what you want to know, and how you want the outside world to perceive you. And as always I want to give myself as an example.
I used to suffer from acne (read my blog post here), I also gained a lot of weight and use to weigh over 200 pounds (read my blog post here), and I also wanted to change that. So my self care routine began to revolve around taking better care of my skin. I wear a mask weekly, have certain daily self care routines that I do for my skin, and you get the point.
And for my weight it became the same thing, I had to ask myself what exercises and eating habits did I want to incorporate daily for my own self care. In order live a healthier lifestyle, which I have a video on and you can watch that below. But you get the point, knowing who you want to be will help you know what you need to add in your self care routine to help you transform to your best self.
3. Third, Self Care Routine Ideas
Here are some self care routine ideas that you can incorporate in your daily, weekly, or even monthly routine. Figure out what ideas work for you and will help you become your best self as I talked about in the second tip. And then figure out a way to incorporate these ideas into your schedule as I told you in the first tip.
4. Self Care Ideas ~ Exercise
I personally have started to do this daily and I HATE to exercise. But as I settle into a routine I notice that my body just starts to feel better. Try to include exercise at least a few times a week. You can click my blog here to see what exercises you can do at home if you are limited on time. You can try exercising apps, Yoga, YouTube videos you can follow along to, walking, or running. Try to choose something that fits into your schedule and that is befitting to YOU. I am not going to sit here and tell you that everyone’s self care routine means that you need to run a 5k because that is just not true for everyone.
5. Self Care Ideas ~ Create an at home spa
I have a video down below on this that you can watch on how to do this and perhaps you can do this once a week or even once a month. Some of the things that I like to include are:
- A bath with either essential oils (click here to buy) or bath bombs (click here to buy) that smell nice and help relax the body.
- Doing manicure and pedicure at home. You can click my blog here for more on how to do this at home but getting a manicure set (click here to buy), a pedicure set (click here to buy), and a foot soaker (click here to buy) can be heavenly.
- Facemask, I tend to do this about once a week and I tend to buy the face mask in bulk (click here to buy).
- Massages, you can go and pay to get a massage or you can get a portable massager that you can strap on to your back and watch TV all in the comfort of your own home. Click here to buy.
5. Self Care Ideas ~ Journal
This is a big self care routine for me. Never underestimate the power of journaling. When you write something out it can be a release of tension and stress, and it gives you to he opportunity to just reflect on your day. Often times people can hold negative emotions inside and not even realize it but when you actually write them down then you may be surprised on how much better you feel once you are able to write down and process your emotions. Click here to a great journal.
6. Self Care Ideas ~ Learn To Relax
As easy as it sounds even I have a hard time with this but if you do not relax you can get burned out which I have a blog post on and you can read it here. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to pick a day or a designated time and just sit and do nothing. For me I have a diffuser with essential oils ( click here to buy) that really help me get into the mood of just sitting down and relaxing.
7. Self Care Ideas ~ Read
In particular try to read a motivational or encouraging book. Of course you can read anything, but try to incorporate a book that actually helps you grow as a person. No matter if it is in business, relationships, or self help. Here are some of my favorites:
- Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be
- Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success: Discovering Your Gift and the Way to Life’s Riches
- The Dream Giver Following Your God Given Destiny
- The Bible (I like to read from the Joyce Meyer Bible)
Okay, so I really hoped that this helped you want to come up with your own self care routine and gave you ideas on what to do. And remember to try to stick to it. There are plenty of times where people have called me in the middle of my at home spa day to go do something and I have said no because it is important to have that time to recharge and care for yourself. So do not be afraid to schedule, make time for it, and do it. No excuses.
Also, get my Christian Manifestation guide with 29 affirmations and Bible verses. Another aspect that I added to my self care routine, and this was to change my mindset. Often times we start our day off all wrong with what we speak and how we speak to ourselves. That can change by simply saying affirmations to yourself at the start of the day to get you in a better mindset to go about your day. Click here to buy.
