To listen to the blog post “How To Love The Skin You’re In & Embrace Your Flaws” over reading it click the play button below.
Everyone has flaws, but instead of running from them how about, you learn to embrace your flaws and love the skin you’re in. Because believe it or not it is your imperfections are that make you perfect.
I know that sounds cliche because the fact of the matter is that you don’t want to love your flaws and imperfections. You don’t like that unsightly scar that you have, you don’t like the extra sagging skin at the bottom of your stomach, your cellulite, your big nose, your acne, or that you don’t fit the mainstream idea of beauty. For more tips on self-esteem, tips check out my video below. Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel by clicking here.
But in the end, you must learn to let all of that go. To embrace your flaws, love the skin you’re in, and you must learn to accept yourself as it, and doing so means there is beauty in that. Because it may be those same flaws and imperfections that are meant to set you out from the pack and lead you to do something extraordinary.
If you don’t believe me then I am going to show you 4 amazing women that not only have learned to embrace their flaws but their flaws is what made them stand out. Because if they had not learned to embrace what the world thought was “wrong” about them. Then they may not be where they are today. Before I get into these four women I need to give you a little pep talk. Because as women we have the tendency to be extremely hard on ourselves and our appearance.
Women judging themselves and other women is so ingrained in our psyche that we do not realize how detrimental it is. It is so in us (women) to criticize ourselves and we do even realize it. I was at a bridal shop with my friend and I promise you EVERY single woman who tried on a dress said: “I won’t be this weight.” Or “I want to order a size smaller, I am going to lose weight.” It was insane. And most of them were average-sized women.
1. Love The Skin You’re In & Embrace Your Flaws ~ What is my point:
More than anything I need you to understand that no one is perfect and if we keep chasing perfect then we are going to drive our self insane. You are going to go out and keep getting plastic surgery after plastic surgery trying to fix things about yourself because you are NEVER going to be satisfied with how you look and you will always be comparing yourself to an idea of perfection that does not exist.
Social media and mainstream media are not reality. Celebrities literally have cooks, personal trainers, and/or plastic surgery that make them look like perfection. And by the time they grace the magazine covers, they have had a ton of Photoshop that makes us believe that the picture in the magazine is really what they look like. And it isn’t. So that begs the question, why are we comparing ourselves to a beauty standard that does not exist? And why can’t we just love our self as is?
And in the famous words in J. Cole, Why Fix What God Already Put His Paint Brush On.
But I know that I can speak into I am blue in the face but seeing is believing. Let me show you these 4 wonderful women that really show you the meaning of “your imperfections are what make you perfect.”
2. Love The Skin You’re In & Embrace Your Flaws ~ Lesson from Turia Pitt
I encourage you all to read this story about a model (Turia Pitt) who was burned in a fire. Turia was an ex-model, fitness junkie, and successful mining engineer whose life was turned upside down when she became trapped in a grass fire while competing in a 100km ultramarathon.
She was choppered out of the remote desert barely alive, with full-thickness burns to 65 percent of her body Turia lost seven fingers, endured six grueling months in hospital, underwent over 200 operations, and spent two years in recovery. When this happened she was in a relationship the fact that she was burned meant nothing.
He married her because he loved her. I love this because it shows that love goes beyond what you look like. As the Bible states
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30
If someone loves you only for your outward beauty, then in 20 years from now when your beauty is not what it once was then what? Are they going to leave you and trade you in for a younger model? Instead, get someone who accepts you and that comes by accepting yourself first.
Understand that Turia was not just her looks. She is a mining engineer, humanitarian, athlete, motivational speaker, and author. She has something more to offer to the world and now she wants to encourage women just like you to be more and to do more. You can check out some of her books below.

4. Love The Skin You’re In & Embrace Your Flaws ~ A lesson from Lizzie Velasquez
Lizzie Velasquez was born with an extremely rare congenital disease called Marfanoidâ “progeroide” lipodystrophy syndrome that, among other symptoms, prevents her from accumulating body fat and gaining weight. She chose to become a victor over a victim.
She did a YouTube video that pretty much went viral. But not for something good but because of the amount of hate, bullying, and disrespectful comments that she was receiving over what she looked like. This is where Lizzie embraced her flaws and is now a motivational speaker, author, and YouTuber. Mostly where she always encourages other women to accept their flaws and be their own kind of beautiful.

6. Love The Skin You’re In & Embrace Your Flaws ~ Thoughts
I am not sure what your flaws are. But what I am saying is that all these women had flaws. But they accepted them and embraced them, and it is because of the flaws that they have that they are where they are today. Remember your imperfections are what make you perfect and it is through your imperfections that you may be able to find your purpose. So learn to love the skin you’re in.
If you know a woman that is struggling to accept her flaws then feel free to share this post with her for encouragement.
Plus I have something for you, it is my affirmation guide that will help you with self esteem and more. Just click here or the picture below.
We really have to work so hard not to compare ourselves and to focus on the inner beauty in ourselves and others. I have met very attractive people with ugly hearts or the dullest personality. Beauty fades.
I like your post!!! We women have to accept us as we are – we are perfect.
Amen sister! The quest for perfection is futile and such a waste of time and energy!
Very well said! I know that this is such a difficult thing for the majority of women in our society. There is a lot of power in letting go of that societal pressure and allowing true acceptance.
Amen! We are loved, treasured and made by God. And God don’t make no junk. 🙂
Yes! I am learning with every day to feel more comfortable in my own skin. I am God’s creation – I should never resent what I am.
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
