Yes I had cosmetic sugary. To be honest I never thought I would be the one to get anything done to myself.  But in the last two years I gained over 60 pounds and it seemed like there was nothing I could to about it. I went on diets, cut out caffeine, junk food, went on fast, diet pills, and ate fewer calories; but there was nothing that I could do to shed the weight.  And so I considered something called SmartLipo.

Me Two Years Ago

Before going into my experience I want to say that before going into SmartLipo I wanted to be realistic about my expectations. I knew that having this procedure meant that I had to live a healthy lifestyle going forward.  I also wanted to say that I got this procedure done because I wanted to.  I was tired of not losing weight and of not being able to fit into my clothing.  I did not do it for a man (like many of my family and friends thought) I did it for me.

What Is Smart Lipo:

This is the Text book definition: SmartLipo uses a method known as laser liposculpture to melt fat away. SmartLipo is a minimally invasive, safe procedure that produces aesthetic, effective results as a new, modernized alternative to some of the more traditional liposuction techniques. It is ideal for removal of stubborn fatty areas that have proven difficult to remove by an exercise regimen and healthy diet.

What is the difference between SmartLipo and regular liposuction?

blog-types-of-fatOkay so there are two layers of fat that you need to concern yourself with when it comes to liposuction. The Subcutaneous Fat, which is the fat above your muscle.  It is the fat that you can pinch.  And the Visceral fat, which is the fact underneath the muscle or the hard fat.  Traditional liposuction can get both layers of fat. Which means that traditional liposuction is more invasive and means that you will have to be put to sleep.  SmartLipo only gets the subcusaneous fat, or the outer layer of the fat that you can pinch.  And during SmartLipo you do not have to be put to sleep.

SmartLipo is said to have less down time then regular liposuction. SmartLipo also tightens the skin whereas regular liposuction you need a tummy tuck to tighten the skin. For both procedures, once the fat cells are gone they cannot gfatrow back.

Why I chose SmartLipo:

I chose this procedure because I have a job and I could not take the time off that is needed for regular liposuction. I was out of work for about 4 days and it has been a little over a week and I am still sore. But I have a job where I sit at a desk all day, so it does not require me to move and lift anything.  Secondly, I did not want to be put to sleep.  My doctor explained that when anyone is put to sleep, there is a 5% chance they may not wake up! So I did not want to take the chances of dying to get my fat sucked out.

My SmartLipo Experience:

They say that it is minimally invasive. But not in my opinion.  They numb the local area, then they stick a laser under your skins, put in IV’s underneath the skin, and then they stick a suction device to suck out all the fat.  There is a lot of blood and a lot of aftercare involved.  And there are times when you feel pain during the surgery.

What I got Done:

I got 6 areas done.  My lower love handles, the love handles under my bra, my lower abs, upper abs, area above my butt, and my back.

Check out my videos on the procedures:

The fat that my doctor was able to suck out, it not common. I should say that.  My doctor said that out of the 3,000 people he has done, my fat that he sucked out was in the top five.  I am embarrassed to admit that but oh well it is gone now.  I think it has to do with the fact that I had a lot of pinchable fat and not underneath the muscle fat, which allowed him to get more.

I still have saggy skin which should tighten after a few weeks to several months.  Ideally I should also get smaller than this, since several IV bags were pumped in me during the sugary and it should be a few more weeks until all of the fluid is out.  And lastly, I have about 20 incisions on my stomach and back from where the laser and suction device went in.  They are painful, they leak, and they require a lot of a care.

After the sugary you still have to wear a compression garment that was provided to me by my doctor. The garment needs to be tight so that it can shape you. After a few days, I also chose to wear my waist trainer (get it here) for a few hours out of the day as well.  From here, I am hoping my skin gets tighter. I am also hoping that I get a little smaller.  I will keep you guys updated.

  1. In the first paragraph no where did you mention working out. With out that and eating healthy you’ve just wasted thousands of dollars on a procedure that quite frankly could have been accomplish with doing those simple things.

    • I do not feel it is a waste at all. I did work out. Like I said all people have their own medical issues with their metabolism or whatever. That is why you cannot judge what is going on with someone else’s body. The procedure may not be for you, but I love my results. Thanks for your comment though.

      • Thanks for sharing. I believe is going to be alright for you. I’ve my smartlipo done 3 days ago. Still very painful if asked me. Did you lose weight ? I lost 3 pounds. I don’t see work out any sooner. Did you? Best regards

        • I did not lose much wait only like 4 pounds. I did diet afterward and lost 40 pounds over all. I was sore for a long time. Just remember to massage the areas.

    • Thank so much. I will provide updates. I am suppose to be doing a weight lost program with the same doctor next month, so I will provide more updates and hopefully lose more weight.
