Let’s talk about why God puts us through trials and tribulations.  When I was early in my Christian walk I can admit that I fell into the belief that because I was Christian that I would never really go through trials and tribulations because God loved me.

But as I grew in my Chrisitan walk I now know that in fact, we do go through trials and tribulations and God allows it. I mean think about when you read the Bible who did NOT go through trials and tribulations.

1. Why Does God Allow Tragedy ~ David’s Trials & Tribulations

When we talk about why does God allow bad things to happen to us I want you to look at David. David is known for being a man after God’s own heart.  And although we always celebrate his triumphs we never really look at his hard times.

  • David went through his entire family treating him like trash and not believing in him
  • David had to live in the wilderness while running for his life because Saul wanted to kill him.
  • David’s lost a child in infancy.
  • David’s son raped his half-sister Tamar, which basically sent their entire family into war and two of David’s sons ended up dead.

You can also see my video below on the story of Tamar (for more on why does God allow tragedy and why does God let bad things to happen to us) and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel by clicking here.

But my point is that being a Christian never exempts us from anything and anyone who has ever been blessed by God has gone through something.  This is why the first reason God allows trials and tribulations are too.

2. Why Does God Allow Bad Things To Happen? To Test Our Faith

One thing that you can learn from David is that it did not matter who was for him or who was against him that he always had faith in God.  David was never fearful of the hardships that he was in but he decided to trust God throughout the process.

The reason why David was able to slay Goliath is that while he was a shepherd boy God helped him defeat a lion and a bear which helped him have faith that he could defeat Goliath.

But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and attacked it and rescued the lamb from its mouth; and when it rose up against me, I seized it by its whiskers and struck and killed it.  Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.”  1 Samuel 17:34-36

So when the time came for David to shine, David was not fearful at all because he had already faced a similar situation and saw how God brought him out of it. Therefore, the more trials and tribulations that we go through we learn to trust God more as he shows up time and time again through our trail. 3. Why Does God Allow Tragedy ~ Allow B To Make Us Stronger

A great example of God making us strong would be to put us through trials and tribulations.  If you take the story of Joseph for example.

  • Joseph was sent into slavery by his jealous brothers.
  • Then had to serve as a slave.
  • While he was a slave, he was falsely accused of rape and sent to prison.

Even though these trials and tribulations Joseph still worked hard and showed his Godly character.  Having faith that everything was going to work out and at the end of the story of Joseph all of the trials and tribulations that he went through actually turned out to be steps that brought him closer to the purpose God had for him.  Saying:

God sent me [to Egypt] ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on the earth, and to keep you alive by a great escape.  So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt. Genesis 45:7-8

4. Why Does God Let Me Suffer & Why God Puts Us Through Trials and Tribulations Final Thoughts

Whenever I think about the hardships that God allows I always go back to this verse:

And not only this but [with joy] let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance;  and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation].  Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3-5

So if God is putting you through trials and tribulations then I want you to know that even if he does not feel like it God knows what he is doing and after your trials and tribulations you will have developed:

  • Patience
  • Hope
  • Confidence
  • Endurance
  • And spiritual confidence.
