I wanted to get into creative ways to hear God’s voice because I know that so many people struggle on how to talk from God, hearing from God, knowing what God wants them to do. If this is you then maybe you have not found a way to hear God’s voice that has resonated with you yet.
So, if you are struggling to hear God’s voice OR if you just want to look for different ways on how to hear God’s voice this is what I will tell you how to do. Also, check out my video below for more tips on how to hear God’s voice and don’t forget to click here to subscribe to my YouTube channel by clicking here.
1. How To Hear God’s Voice The Basics
I started to get creative on how to hear God’s voice when I read the Bible. I mean think about, when you literally read the Bible so many people heard God’s voice in so many ways. For example.
- Music – Think of the entire book of Psalms and the Songs Of Solomon, which is music that was written.
- Writing – That is legit what the whole Bible is, people who heard from God and then wrote it down. Easy right?
- Vision, pictures, or meditation – Think of the book of Revelations. Scary I know, but the entire book is about visions and of course, the visions were from God.
- Art – Drawing or having some other creative expression.
So let’s get into it, shall we?
2. How Hear God’s Voice ~ To The Beauty of Music
Music can be a powerful tool when it comes to hearing God’s voice. The reason why we know that is because David was very gifted at music. When Saul became afflicted with an evil spirit David would play the harp and the evil spirit was removed from the room.
Whenever the evil spirit from God bothered Saul, David would play his harp. Saul would relax and feel better, and the evil spirit would go away. 1 Samuel 16:23
So yes, music help brings in God’s voice but also it can heal the environment around you.
3. Hear God’s Voice Through ~ Playing music
If you are in a prayer session or sometimes if I am just cleaning the house, or legit even if I am in the shower. I just play music on my Amazon echo which you can click here to buy. And either sing along or I can just start talking to God. You can feel free to openly worship, sing, or dance to the music. Which I talk more about in my video down below as apart of my spiritual bath routine.
Yes, dancing is a thing to check the following Bible verse.
Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Psalm 149:3-4
And then you can start to feel the presence of God. And that is what I mean “the feeling” you can hear the voice of God or sometimes you can just feel the power of God when you just submit to allowing the music to move through you.
4. Hear God’s Voice Through ~ Writing music
The book of Psalms was written by David and it was basically his praises to the Lord and Songs of Solomon (hence the word “songs” I think you get the point). I personally also hear God’s voice through music. You can check out my post here to see all of my music and to stream them on your preferred platform.
I personally do not think it has to be a certain genre of music, I just think it can be whatever God speaks to your heart. If you want, you can sit down and write the music or just speak to God out loud and start to sing and sometimes you would be surprised by the type of music that God puts in your heart to sing. As this too has personally happened to me. So, if you are one of those people that really gets moved by music or are musically inclined then, writing music can be a great option for you.
5. Hear God’s Voice Through ~ Hearing God’s Voice Through Writing
To get a detailed way of how to do this you can always check out my blog post on how to journal with the Bible by clicking here. Writing is one of the first ways that I started to hear God’s voice. First, I would write a letter to God or questions, comments or concerns, and then I would write a response in God’s voice.
It does take some practice because sometimes I was just writing a random response but as you practice you will notice that God is speaking through you because of the way the writing changes or if through your writing something is revealed to you that you may not have known before. This is why it is good to keep a journal so you can go back time and time again and read the responses on what you wrote to confirm that you were hearing from God.
As you go back to the journal and you receive confirmation of what you wrote that was from God then you will get more comfortable hearing God’s voice because you will start to recognize what God’s voice sounds like. Click here to see some spiritual journal options that may help you out.
5. Hear God’s Voice Through ~ Poetry
If you were to read the entire book in the Bible Psalms yes it is songs but also poetry too. I too like to implement this technique because it is a creative way to hear from God. For example, this poem below from my Instagram (click here to follow me) would be an example of poetry that I wrote.
It is short but at the moment, it gave me encouragement when I needed it and God gave me the words to write. And it is a great creative reminder that you can frame or put on display in your home so that when you see them in your home it will be a reminder of some of the things that God spoke to you.
6. You Can Hear God’s Voice Through Visions
This is not my specialty honestly, but I have tried it and have had some success. BUT I do know some people who are good at getting visions or pictures from God. If this sounds too out of the box for you then read the Bible, any prophet person of the Bible got a vision from God. Just take the following Bible verse.
In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. Daniel 7:13
Granted you are not going to want to see doomsday in your vision. OR maybe you do, but hopefully its more of a positive vision or even a dream. I can say that I received a word from God in a dream, which is the same as a vision so either way. Although I am not an expert at getting visions I did take a class on how to do this. I know legit a class, right? So basically, try to meditate. For the Bible says:
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8
Meditate on the Bible verse, a prayer, or the answer that you want to receive from God then close your eyes and relax and ask God to reveal to you what He wants you to know. You can feel free to add relaxing music or to add things to your environment that will put you more in a relaxed state.
The more open and relaxed you are, then it is a lot easier to get the visions on what God is trying to tell you. If you are like me, this may not come naturally so it may take practice. So, do not be afraid to lay down, sit, or whatever you want. Close your eyes, pick out a Bible verse to meditate on or pray out loud and ask God to speak to you through pictures and see what you get. Also check out my video down below on how you can find your spiritual gifts.
7. You Can Hear God’s Voice Through Art
I personally think that God can use any gift that you have to hear from Him. Taking the following Bible verse.
He has filled them with skill to do the work of an engraver, of a designer, and of an embroiderer, in blue, purple, and scarlet fabric, and in fine linen, and of a weaver; makers of every work and embroiderers of [excellent] designs. Exodus 35:35
God specifically gave people ways to artistically express themselves and if God gave you the gift then you can use it to hear from God. Why not. I personally love art and think it has the power to move people, so if you feel the need to draw, sew, craft, or create something that is “religious” in nature then maybe that is God’s way of working through you or having you express His voice through artistic expression.
I am going to have a dorky moment but rock with me for a second. When I took art history back in undergraduate most of the art created during the Renaissance period had religious meaning to it. I mean look at the Sistine chapel, that someone randomly took a freakin paintbrush and painted this insanely beautiful work of art that depicts certain characters and books of the Bible. When you see it you cannot help but be moved.
And that is the point of hearing God’s voice, perhaps not always audible but to be moved and to feel God’s presence. So, if creating something artistically does that for you, then why not. Who knows you can be the next Michelangelo. You never know. That’s a big maybe but miracles happen every day so, why place limitations on your gifts.
I know that some of my suggestions seem out of the box I so get, but as I always say that hearing from God does not have to be boring. It can be creative, fun, and it can be beautiful. And as someone who chooses to enact creativity when hearing from God myself, it has been some of the most fun times that I have had with Him. And anything that brings you closer to God, in more of a comfortable way, is a win in my book. So, don’t knock it to you try it.
Last but not least, another creative way to hear from God is through spiritual fasting and I have an eBook that tells you exactly how to do it for only 99 cents. Just click here or the picture below.
