I am going to tell you how to get what you want. Use what you got to get what you want is the MOST and I repeat MOST important piece of advice that I could give you in regards to reaching your goals. Now since this is a Christian based blog get your mind out of the gutter. Because you may have heard this phrase in terms of using your body or looks to use men or to get material gains. That is NOT what I am talking about and that is what I like to call the B class chick (what I learned from the book Played or Be Played). Also, known as:
An attractive female who has had the world given to her on a silver platter really has no incentive to acquire any other type of knowledge or higher learning. B-class females know that their looks are the only thing they have going for them, and because of this they live in a state of insecurity. However, at the same time, they have become comfortable with having everything given to them, and this causes them to have a lazy mentality. It’s hard for a woman to get out of a comfort zone when she is still getting her basic needs (and primal desire for attention) taken care of. But these women know that when those looks go (which they will) it’s all over for them.
You can also check out my video down below to also check out the other classes of women.
If you are a reader of my blog then you should know me better than that. What I am talking about is how we hold ourselves back from doing or getting what we want in life because we feel we do not have (fill in the blank) to get us there. And so we stay stuck. Let me give you an example:
1. How to get what you want ~ Case in point: Me
You can view my video below where I talked about this but I started YouTube like many years ago (which I have put all those videos on private). And I quit. The reason why I quit is that my camera equipment sucked, my editing skills were not that great, I did not look like the traditional YouTuber, and I really did not think that I was going to get anywhere on YouTube and no one was going to watch my channel because all the stuff I had access to was low budget.
And no one wanted to watch a low budget channel. I told myself that I would just quit YouTube, get more money, and when I got more money then I would get better equipment, come back with a vengeance, and then all of the followers would flock to me because I would be on a higher level. Years past and I did not come back onto YouTube on a consistent basis until this 2019.
Meanwhile, my highest video count had over 200,000 views and my channel overall had over 700,000 views overall. That was with the bad equipment that I thought other people cared so much about and would not watch. In fact, I continued to gain subscribers and videos views into the thousands on most videos and even into the tens of thousands and some the 100’s thousands. But I quit because I felt like what I was doing was not good enough because it did not compare to what others were doing and what they had access to. (PS Don’t forget to subscribe to my channel by clicking here).
Imagine if I would have just kept going, doing what I could imagine how far along I would have been by simply using what I had to reach my goal to get what I wanted; instead of getting in my own way and making excuses. So now with my return to YouTube, my view count is nowhere, where it was and years were wasted because I felt what I had was not good enough.
When in fact, it was. Which is a lesson to myself and now a lesson that I want to teach to you; to stop waiting for what you don’t have, something better, another day, another time, and moment, a later date, or for everything to be perfect, and simply just use what you have right here in the moment to get what want.
2. How to get what you want ~ What Does this mean for you
If you want to know how to get what you want you have to actually go after what you want. The point is that often times we hold ourselves back because we feel we do not have what is within our reach to do it. Or sometimes because we don’t want to do something right now because of fear we and so we make up excuses that we don’t have what we need when really that is just an excuse not to try anyway. Some examples include:
- I cannot go back to school because I don’t have (the money, time, energy).
- I cannot start my own business because I am not (tech-savvy, I do not have the resources, I did not go to business school)
- I can’t do this because I am not smart enough.
- I cannot do this because I do not have this qualification.
- I will once I have this in place.
- I do not have access to this and therefore I cannot.
But if you want to know how to get what you want just remember you can, you can try, or at least you can start and make strides toward where you want to be by acting and doing something right now. Even if you have to go to school part-time over full time you can. Even if you have to work full time while starting your own business you can.
Even if you have to start an online business over a brick business you can because all you need for that is a computer over an actual building. You can do something and you can start somewhere using what you have right now.
Whatever you want to do there is something available to you right now at this very moment to pull off what you want to pull off in some capacity even though it may not be exactly in the way you envisioned it. And what better way to prove the point of using what you got to get what you want by looking at Joseph from the Bible.
3. How to get what you want ~ Using What You Got To Get What You Want Case In Point Joseph
You can also check out my YouTube video that I did on Joseph to get more tips on how to go after your dreams and the story of Joseph. What below, and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel by clicking here.
Joseph knew that he was meant for great things because he kept having dreams that he was meant for great things. And then Joseph ran his mouth to his brothers, they became jealous of him and sold him into slavery.
Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. Genesis 37:5-8
Once Joseph was a slave, one might think that Joseph needed to settle into the slave mentality and let go of his dreams of doing big things. But NOPE he started where he was because he knew he was meant for more. But he also knew he was a slave so he had to work within his limitations and make the most of his situation. As a slave, Joseph worked hard and he became a successful and prosperous man.
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did. Genesis 39: 1-3
When you read this you may think that this is great. Joseph was successful and he has reached his dream. But in reality, he did not. He was just using his circumstances (AKA what he had) to propel him to his dream. But Joseph was still a slave, he was bowing down to someone else and people were not bowing to him as he saw in his own dream. This is why you must keep this lesson about using what you got to get what you want him in mind.
4. How to get what you want Use What You Got, Grow, And Start Again
If you want to know how to get what you want then know you will always be growing and improving. Take the story of my YouTube Channel for example, even though I was getting views if I would have continued, I would have kept using what I had and I would have gotten better.
Using what you got to get what you want does not mean remaining the same, you upgrade and you get better. Never think that using what you got on the minimal level is all you were meant to do because you have seen some level of success, that is only a glimpse of what you were meant to have.
Joseph was still a slave and his destiny still rest in someone else’s hands. We know that because the master’s wife had a crush on Joseph wanted to sleep with him, he refused and she accused him of attacking her and Joseph was thrown in jail.
When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. Genesis 39:19-20
5. How to get what you want ~ Getting Where You Want Sometimes You Get Set Backs
Knowing how to get what you want means knowing there are sets backs. When people get set back or things do not go exactly how they want it to go then they start to think that it was not meant to be. Not everything comes easy and sometimes things happen for a reason. Once again going back to the story of my YouTube channel when I really quit I did not have thousands and thousands of views on my videos. That actually came after I quit and was not paying attention.
I remember thinking to myself that if it was meant to be that as soon as I posted my video that thousands of people would just come and flock in, and when they didn’t I thought because my quality was bad, and then I thought it was not meant to be because I could not make the top quality videos and no one was watching them anyway and therefore I gave up.
And when I gave up, my channel started to grow. A setback or things not happening exactly the way I wanted to was not an indicator to give up what I was doing, to get discouraged, nor was it an indicator that things were not meant to be. But I took it as an indication that it was and therefore I gave up.
Joseph, on the other hand, held on to his idea of being at the top of the totem pole despite what he saw and despite being in jail. And so he utilized all his God-given ability right there in prison.
So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. Genesis 39: 22-23
6. How to get what you want ~ Case in point Me…. again
I know you may be tired of hearing about me BUT I have another point I want to say before we continue on with Joseph. You are reading my blog now which at the present has gotten over 3,000-page views per day on a good day. That is not to brag but there were plenty of days where I did not get that and I just told God that I wanted people to read my blog and encourage people, and God told asked me one simple question. Was I doing that now, right where I was with the everyday people who were around me?
If I saw someone at work who needed to be encouraged was I doing that? If someone told me their problems did I pray for them or help them if it was in my ability to do to? How can you want to help those on a massive level if you are not faithful right where you are. Using what is within your reach to show God that you are prepared for more responsibility?
7. How to get what you want ~ Being Faithful Right Where You Are
Which I have a song and video on down below that you can watch and click here to stream.
Now back to Joseph and how he can show you how to get what you want
What Joseph thought was a set back was actually a setup. Because it was there that he meant Pharaoh’s servant that was thrown in jail and used his gifts of dream interpretation to help him. The same man that would later remember Joseph once he was released from prison and back in Pharaoh’s good graces. When Pharaoh needed for a dream to be interpreted and no one could do it, it was this servant that remembered Joseph.
Now imagine if Joseph was so stuck on his set back that he did not want to do anything in prison but just sit there and think about how he was done wrong, then the opportunities would have been missed. Or imagine if Joseph just hated everyone because everyone betrayed him and he did not want to talk or open up to other people. And he didn’t want to talk to anyone in prison, then an opportunity would have been missed.
Instead, he chose to use his gift, talent, integrity, morality, and to be in good spirits the entire time no matter where he was and no matter if he was not where he wanted to go yet. And it was this using what you got to get what you want mentality that led him exactly to where he wanted to be.
And in a matter of moments, he went to being a prisoner to getting exactly what he wanted AND what he had seen in his dream. And that was being on top, in charge, and the only man that was more important than him was Pharaoh himself. One moment he was in prison and the next he was the second most powerful man in Egypt.
So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him, “Make way!” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your word, no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.” Genesis 41: 41-44

8. How To Get What You Want ~ Use What You Got To Get What You Want May Take Time
What a turn around right! One thing that I have to applaud Joseph is his unwavering faith. When we read the story of Joseph often time it just seems like things happened so fast but no.
Now Joseph [had been in Egypt thirteen years and] was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Genesis 41:46
He did this for 13 years and he was 30 years old. Which means you need to even STOP the narrative of I cannot use what I got to get what I want because I am too old, too much time has passed, or I have been sitting here too long, or I am been too stagnant, or whatever else you tell yourself.
You can tell yourself what you can’t do, do not have the resources to do, or you can stay stuck and do what you can. I always think to myself if I would have just done on my YouTube Channel and been consistent that whole time. Imagine how much further I would be. Many people who started then and after me who were consistent are now making a killing on YouTube did not worry about their busted equipment.
Because most people when they started out on YouTube had busted equipment. But they used what they had, but I could not see that. I was too up in my head thinking that what I did not have and was not good enough and so I simply did not and I only hurt myself in the long run. So remember use what you got to get what you want.
How To Get What You want ~ Just like with the story of the talents.
To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and then he went on his journey. Matthew 25:15
The keyword here is that God gave you everything that you needed within your own ability to double your talents (click here to read that blog in case you are confused). No matter if you have 5, 2, or 1 just start where you are if you want to know how to get what you want. If you were given one talent, you may not have the same resources with the one with 5 talents or two, but you have one and double the one and you have two and double the two and you have four and double that and you have 8. Think about it. But it started with the one.
