The Onyx Box subscription is one of my favorite subscription boxes so far this month. My first favorite is my BeautyCon box (click here for my review on that) and this one is in second. My least favorite is my Boxy Charm box (click here to read my review on that box), and this box was about the same price as Boxy Charm, yet it came with more products over all and came with more products I will actually use.
To give you a little back story on Onyx Box, it is specifically made for women of color. I feel like the makeup that comes in the box is pretty versatile and all women can use it, but the hair products are very geared to women of color, specifically those who have natural hair.
Make Up Products:
This is a pretty color. It looks like a gloss but it is really a lip stain. The color is super pigmented and depending on your lip color it can be a nude type shade or a light pink. This is a color that I think will look good on all skin tones no matter what race you are.
This color is amazing. I cannot tell you enough on how I like it. Since I am dark and it looks good on me, this is another color that I feel will look good on ALL skin tones. It is matte, which is really in right now. I wore this lip color to work and got a lot of compliments on it.
Ofra Eyeliner Turquoise
I typically do not wear eye liner that is not black just because I have trouble getting it to show up on my skin. But as I swatched this color, it was a really pretty color AND it shows up on my skin pretty well. So I may use it as either eyeliner or lip liner, since in my world it is all one in the same.
Typically I use liquid liner, but I have no problem using this liner. It is pretty soft and heavy, which I like. And it shows up in a thick line or a thin line.
I have said this many times on my blog. Mascara is mascara it all looks the same to me. It could be the best mascara and it would look the same as the cheapest mascara and I would not really know the difference. I have little eyelashes any way so it would take a lot to volumize what I have going on. But I will use it.
This product looks, smells, and feels exactly like coco butter. I mean exactly like. You could give me a jar of coco butter and I would believe that this was the same product. I have not had a chance to try it out yet, it does not give you the feel of typical moisturizer. It has a harder consistency, but it still smells good. It boasts to give you longer and stronger hair.
This is a product that is made specifically for natural hair. Since I am natural I can use this product, if you are not natural then you would have no use for it. This product smells really good. Like a tropical type smell. I have not used this product yet but I have used Cantu products before, and I expect that this product will be as equally awesome.
One thing that this box was full of was oils. It came with like three different types of oils. This one was a hot oil treatment. I have used this product before and I like it. It is good for a hot oil treatment if you have dry and damaged hair that needs repair.
I actually expected this to smell like coco butter. But it didn’t, it smelled like nothing. I would use this over my body and probably not my face. I can’t see putting oil on my face like that; I feel I would break out. I was happy that the oil had retinal in it, which is supposed to be really good for your skin.
This oil smells like mouth wash. I would not be a scent that I am going for, but hey. All it is in Shea Oil, which shea is good for your skin. And you can use the oil for your hair, skin, and hair; which that is a bonus for me.
This product is a very vegan and everything good for the planet type of product. It even smells like plants. When I squeezed it on my hand, it looked a lot like dirt. I have used this product one or two times, not sure if that is enough to see a difference.
As you can see this box came with a lot of different things. I feel like it is worth the price. Check out my video below on the full box review.
