DIY Ombre Sunset Hair Tutorial

I am going through a sunset hair infatuation phase. But it is so hard to find sunset hair dye or hair that already comes in a sunset hair color.  The closest sunset hair color that I got that was already pre-dyed was wigs by Freestress in the sunrise color.

You can click to (see my blog here) on my full review of the hair and also see my picks of synthetic wigs with the sunrise color.

But I had to make one because I wanted it to have a three tone sunset ombre hair look. And I felt as though the pre-dyed looks did not give me what I was looking for.   And the process was a whole lot easier than what you might think.  So let’s get into it shall we.

What You Will Need

The first thing I did was get some fake hair. I was not going to do this to my real hair, I am just not that bold.  Instead I got strawberry blonde HUMAN hair with dark roots (click here to purchase ).  Yes, human hair is more expensive, but it must be human hair because human hair is the only hair that can be dyed.  You want both the closure and the bundles.  If you are confused on what closures are click here to read the basics on weave and closures.

Once you have your hair you want to dye it the sunrise hair color.DIY Ombre Sunset Hair Tutorial

First you want to start with the darkest color first. Dye both the hair and the closure.

  • Get the Rich Amber Color and apply it right underneath the black roots of the track. DO NOT DO the entire hair with the Rich amber color only about 3-4 inches.

  • The second color you want to apply is the Paprika hair color. You want to start applying the paprika hair color a few millimeters into the Amber color to give it more of an ombre effect.  Oncee again just apply 3-4 inches leaving the blonde ends out.

  • The last step is to get the Magenta hair color and to randomly highlight the hair all throughout. This color helps blend all the colors in and brings it all together.
  • Wrap the hair up in aluminum foil and leave it there for at least an hour. When you are ready to rinse out the hair, make sure to use some type of shampoo and conditioner that is safe for colored hair. For example, Nexxus Color Assure Shampoo and Conditioner, to keep the color longer.

You can go ahead and blow dry and style the hair as you want to. I made a wig out of mine, you can click here to see an example of how I made my wig.  You can also sew it in or use whatever styling method you want to get the hair in your head. (Post contains affiliate links).

I flat ironed the hair with curled it and these are my results.
