“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5

Before we understand the “blessed are the meet” and why the Bible says the meek shall inherit the Earth. Let’s go into what is meek anyway.

blessed are the meek meaning Want to know the proper meaning of blessed are the meet for they shall inherit the Earth. Find out how to be blessed by God, why meekness is not a weakness, and learn to be meek.

1. Blessed Are the Meek Meaning & Why The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~  What is Meek Anyway?

Here are some key take away from understanding what meek is according to the dictionary.

  • Having or showing a quiet and gentle nature: not wanting to fight or argue with other people.
  • Enduring injury with patience and without resentment.
  • Deficient in spirit and courage.
  • Submissive

The fact of the matter is that MOST people are not meek.  It is hard for them to be meek because being meek means that you have to shut your mouth sometimes. It means that you have to swallow your pride and it means that you cannot jump in everyone’s face whenever you get mad at them.

Being meek requires some level of self-control and it is the same self-control that most people lack.  The worldly way of thinking will have you thinking that “meek” is weak. Because we often associate submissiveness with weakness or slave. But having a gentle spirit in the midst of adversity can be a good thing it can make you stronger ( Also check out my blog on how hard times can make your stronger). Which is reason number one as to why the meek shall inherit the Earth.  According to the Bible.

2. Blessed Are the Meek & Why The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~ Case in Point Moses

The first example of being meek and becoming blessed because of his meekness is Moses. Look at the story of Moses. Moses was a little temperamental.  He did not like the treatment of the Jews. And so when he saw one of the Egyptian beating one of the Jews instead of controlling himself, he lashed out and killed one of the Egyptian guards. Which then caused him to be exiled into the desert. So he went from being the prince of Egypt to be the desert roaming around, probably scrounging for food. (Exodus 2-3).

The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~ What is my point:

My point is that if you went from being royalty to wandering around in the desert for 40 years then I think that you would learn some humility. I think that one might learn that when they see something they don’t like such as a guard beating a Jew, instead of lashing out and killing him perhaps you should think before you act.  When Moses came back to Egypt he had all the patience in the world dealing with Pharaoh. He was not angry when Pharaoh refused to let his people go.

He did not run up to him and stab Pharaoh in the neck when things did not go his way. He learned to follow God, trust God’s timing, and trust that no matter what was going on with Pharaoh that he did not need to take things into his own hands.

And now, to this day we remember Moses. Not just for freeing the Jews BUT for parting the red sea, the 10 commandments, how close he was to God, and how he was used by God.  And this was his inheritance.  That he earned because he learned to be meek, to listen to God, and submit to the way of God despite what he was feeling and what he wanted to do.

What we always remember are the Israelites that were not blessed and punished because they refused to listen to God which I have a video on that you can watch below. Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel by clicking here.

3. Blessed Are the Meek Meaning & Why The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~ Case In point Joseph

Look at Joseph from the Bible. The Joseph I am talking about is the one that had the coat of many colors. He had big dreams for himself. Literally, he had a dream that his family (fathers and brothers would bow to him). He told this dream to his family which was a big mistake because they may have seen it as bragging.

As a result, his family then betrayed him which lead him into a life in which he was sold into slavery. The first mistake that Joseph made was telling everybody what God told him.  Sometimes when God tells you something you do not need to go around bragging letting everyone know what God has in store for you. He told YOU and not everyone else.

Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. Genesis 37:5

His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said. Genesis 37:8

When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind. Genesis 37:10-11

The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~ What is my point:

Sometimes you need to be quiet and stop running your mouth. Why was Joseph telling everyone what was between him and God? Was it to brag? And notice he did it more than once.  Even when he saw that him telling his brothers his dream was making them angry. And because he could not humble himself, his own brothers sold him into slavery.

Where he was accused of raped and put in prison for YEARS.  Just like Moses who was in the desert the prison was like Joseph’s desert. Where he had to eat some humble pie. He went from being a favored child of his father and having dreams that his family would bow to him to being a convicted felon and living away his days in prison for something he did not even do.

Was it fair, no it was not fair? But it was in this place that he learned to be meek. Once he got the position in Egypt and there was a famine over the land his brothers came to him. At this point, he could have had his brothers killed or even put in prison.  But instead, he welcomed them with open arms and shared his own inheritance to a family that betrayed him.

You see a selfish man would have been trying to get the family back by doing them wrong.  A meek man would let bye-gone be bye-gone and choose to have peace over division. To this day Joseph was remembered as being a man almost as powerful as the king of Egypt that chose to save Israel from famine. And that was his blessing. You can watch my video below on how to Glory in your suffering where I talk more about Joseph by watching the video below.

4. Blessed Are the Meek Meaning & Why The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth ~ How You Can Inherit the Earth

  • First, meek comes with hardship. I know it can suck because no one wants to experience hardship. BUT. How else can you learn to be both humble and submissive without first being in a position of being below others?

“Meekness means that we must forgive those who hate us, persecute us, and feel empathy for them; not revenge.”

  • Third, It means that in all we do and through all of our interaction we must show people the way of peace and not a place of anger, revenge, or jealously. Even if we do not like them.

In closing, blessed are the meek meaning is that the meek inherit the kingdom of God. We know this, because this is what the Bible says. BUT also because being meek elevates your spirituality and relationship with God. And even though it is SOOO hard to be meek because it means that you die to your flesh and reject the very negative emotions that come natural to us. God tells you that if you are able to be meek and suppress your worldly way of thinking then you will inherit the Earth.
