Deciding what to wear to a job interview can be tricky for some people.

  • Do you wear color?
  • Should you wear all black?
  • Can you wear open toes shoes?

When wondering what to wear to a job interview, the first thing I want you to remember about going on an interview that first impressions are everything.  If you do not know what to wear to an interview and you show up wearing the wrong thing, then you pretty much do not have a job.

So if you are in doubt then don’t wear it.   For this post, I am going to tell you some very direct, simple, and easy do’s and don’t on what to wear to an interview.

I will take the guesswork out of you so you will have confidence knowing that you are appropriately dressed for an interview. And when you look the part of the job it significantly increases your chance of getting the job.

If you show up looking crazy or too casual, the job will just remember you as the woman who showed up to an interview in flip flops and jeans.  Not the woman who may be a good fit for the company now or even in the future.

And you may think that I am joking but I have seen people come to interviews with no bra on, their nipples out for all the world to see, and a skin-tight skirt with a slit that is up to their lady parts.

You could be the best candidate in the world but if you do not wear the proper interview outfit, then it is not going to matter what you know they are going to judge you on how you present yourself. It is one of those hard facts of life.

But fear not, you have come to the right place for all of your interview preparation needs.  Because I am going to tell you what to wear to an interview. Lucky for you, interview outfits are not what they used to be.  You no longer have to wear a three-piece suit.

Often times business casual will suffice as long as it is done properly.  And in case you are confused about what properly is, I am here to tell you.  So here are my do’s and don’ts on what to wear for a job interview.

What To Wear To A Job Interview ~ Do Cover-up.

When going on an interview there is no such thing and being too modest. Also, remember to wear undergarments both panties and a bra AND make sure they are the right color.

If you wear pants or skirts that are a lighter color and you have on pink panties with polka dots coming through, then it will be the same as coming in with no pants.  People will still see your undergarments.

Apart from covering up is also not a good idea to go sleeveless, nothing that shows the imprint of your camel toe, no low cut shirts, and when you sit we should not be able to see your vagina because of how short your skirt is.

Overall, no one should be able to tell what type of undergarments you are wearing, and your skirt should not come above your knee. I would suggest staying clear of all slits BUT if you really must then a slit should not come above two inches above your knee or the back of your knee.

True Story:

I observed a woman coming in for an interview who was dressed like she was going to the club. She had on no bra and it was cold, which meant you could see her nipples.

Not only did she NOT get the job, but after the interview, the interviewer told her to wear undergarments next time because you could see through her shirt. Talking about embarrassing.

What To Wear To A Job Interview ~ Do Dress Up.

You want to look like you are going to a job interview. I do not care if you are going to KFC for an interview, put on some slacks and a dress shirt at least. Never think that the job is not significant enough to dress up.

You would rather over-prepare than under prepare. You never know who may be there, who you may see, and what opportunities may present themselves. And that is even if you are at McDonald’s or something.

True Story:

In high school I was applying to be a waitress at Ryan’s Steakhouse, the district manager just so happened to be there that day walking around. He saw my interview and told the store manager to hire me right on the spot because of my presentation.

What To Wear To A Job Interview ~ Don’t Wear Jeans

Don’t wear jeans or any type of clothing with a hole in them. I don’t care how fashionable they are. I do not care if they have color and I do not care if they are jeans but they kind of sort of look like slacks.  Do not wear jeans of any kind whatsoever at all point blank period. I do not care what job you are going to it is never acceptable.

What To Wear To A Job Interview ~ Do Have A Good Overall Appearance

Look nice. If it is your style then don’t be afraid to wear a little bit of makeup, put some lip gloss. Put some lotion on so you don’t get ashy.

Clean under your nails so even when you shake hands people won’t see dirt under your nails.   No one wants to see a dry ashy person with crusty lips, come in for a job interview. You may laugh but I have seen it.

It was so distracting and I could not pay attention to a word she said.  All I could think was why didn’t she put on some chapstick. Also, make sure it does not look like you have slept in your clothes, iron them, smell good, brush your teeth ( do not get in an interviewers face with stink breathe), and just make sure you look like you have good personal hygiene overall.

What To Wear To A Job Interview ~ Don’t overdo it.

This is a don’t with your makeup

Unless you are going to interview a makeup artist leave the dark smoky eyes to the celebrities and YouTube beauty gurus. Do not walk into your interview with really bright makeup or an overly contoured face.

You never know who your interviewer is they may be really conservative and not like the fact that you look like Bozo the clown with your makeup. And do not overdo your hair. Do not put too much color in it, dye it in an unnatural color, or have your hair sitting three feet high. I like hair as much as the next person but for an interview tone it down.
